A guide to useful pages
An llms.txt file is a proposed plain-text convention for describing a website and linking to useful material. It can include a short company summary, primary services and contact information. It is not the same as robots.txt or an XML sitemap.

Keep the roles separate
Robots.txt gives crawler instructions for matching user agents. A sitemap lists preferred URLs for discovery. Canonical tags identify a preferred page. An llms.txt file summarizes content. None of these files forces a search engine or AI service to recommend the business.
Write it from the real site
Use the actual company identity, domain and current pages. Avoid stuffing it with unsupported superlatives or claims that do not appear on the website. A small maintained file is more useful than a huge dump of repetitive content.
Prioritize the important work
If the website is blocked, thin or outdated, fix that first. Clear service information, credible evidence and useful answers serve both people and discovery systems. Review the file when major pages or contact information change.
